Jeep first introduced the Cherokee as a redesign of the Jeep Waggoner in 1974. The Cherokee was marketed as a ”sporty’ variant of Jeeps station wagon design. In 1984, Jeep introduced the second generation of the Cherokee and it soon became an innovator among sport utility vehicles.

The 1998 model were featuring is a 4-door ”sport’ edition, with 4-wheel drive, a 4-speed automatic transmission, and a 4.0-liter, 6-cylinder engine. Cars.com reviewers praise the 1998 Jeep Cherokee for its comfort, exterior and interior styling, performance, and reliability, especially in inclement weather. Kelley Blue Book users give the compact sport utility vehicle an average rating of 8.9 out of 10, calling the vehicle ”fun to drive’ and ”rugged and extreme.’
