For most of us, driving is a big part of our daily lives. Shouldn’t it be a little fun? If you’re looking for an affordable car that’s enjoyable to drive, look no further than this week’s Goodwill Auto Auction, where we’re featuring this eye-catching 1994 Mercedes SL500 R129 roadster.
Mercedes-Benz first debuted the SL-class series of vehicles in 1954. The “SL” namesake is said to derive from the German phrase “Sportlich-Leicht” which means Sport Lightweight. From 1989 through 2001, Mercedes produced the R129 model, a sleek and sporty two-seat roadster with an automated convertible roof. The R129 was the first convertible to feature an automatic rollbar, which deploys in the event of a rollover and offers improved safety for its occupants.
The SL500 R129 engine packs a lot of power: it has a 5.0-liter, V8 engine producing 322 horsepower. With a 4-speed automatic transmission, this vehicle offers smooth, easy handling on the road. And while it’s technically a convertible, the R129 comes with an aluminum detachable hard top in the same color that makes it suitable for year-round driving.
Kelley Blue Book users give the SL500 R129 an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 for its style, performance, and fun driving experience. If you’ve always dreamed of driving a convertible, now is your chance to scoop up a great deal at the Goodwill Auto Auction!
